Project Ongoing.   The project will continue to acquire data and hopefully result in future publications.  Unfortunately, patient recruitment for the study has been extremely difficult to this point.  This issue has attempted to be addressed by sending out multiple mailings to potential subjects, as well as following up on these mailings with phone calls.  The database from which potential subjects are drawn was also expanded by looking further back in hospital records using billing data to identify potential subjects who sustained their injuries prior to the implementation of the currently used prospective patient tracking database.  In addition, an addendum to the study protocol is in the process of being evaluated by our IRB to make participation in the study more convenient for patients in order to boost recruitment.  A collaboration has also been formed with a trauma center in Argentina to help increase available patient data.  It is hoped that with the addition of more data, significant conclusions will be reached resulting in future publications.
