Community Trauma Development -
A reference for Trauma Surgeons entering a community practice.

Ancillary help (PA/NP/PT)
One PA per Full Time Equivalent (FTE) trauma surgeon. Whether or not the hospital supports this financially, it is a revenue-neutral to revenue-gaining concept, depending on use.

Having multiple PA’s for a larger practice will help with retention of those PA’s. Call is shared, rounds  covered by PA with MD backup/review. OR assist frees another MD to do more/separate work. Physical Therapy (PT) as part of a larger group practice, provided trauma payor mix supports it (area/locale dependent).
