The UAMS Trauma Center has provided quality care to traumatically injured patients and was designated as the first State of Arkansas Level I Trauma Center in 2010 through the implementation of a state-wide trauma system. 

UAMS has one of the most comprehensive orthopaedic trauma centers and sees patients from all over the state who are often sent to UAMS for injured patients. The UAMS program includes board-certified emergency medicine physicians and surgeons. UAMS trauma services include a state-of-the-art Emergency Department with 34 private patient rooms that opened in 2009 along with a major hospital expansion. The department also features a general X-ray room and a computed tomography (CT) scanner, eliminating the need to transport trauma patients for imaging. 

The UAMS Medical Center serves as a tertiary referral center for critically injured adult patients, admitting more than 1300 patients with traumatic injuries each year. The Trauma Center is staffed by the faculty of the UAMS Department of Surgery, Division of Trauma and Surgical Critical Care.  All division members are involved in teaching, research and administrative activities. This highly dedicated surgical faculty, together with closely supervised senior and junior general surgery residents, provide around-the-clock coverage, to save Arkansas’ most critically injured patients.

The Chief of Orthopaedic Trauma in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery will be an outstanding academic physician who can lead the Division in addressing all aspects of the mission of the Department and College of Medicine: clinical care, research, education and service.Qualifications include: An M.D. degree with Board Certification; Fellowship training in orthopaedic trauma; Ability to obtain medical licensure for the State of Arkansas; Applicable clinical, education, and administrative experience; Successful track record in recruiting, mentoring and teaching exemplary physicians.
