OTA Multicenter Research Projects

The OTA research committee is interested in forming study groups of OTA members to perform multicenter clinical research projects to answer some of the key questions in orthopaedic trauma. The research committee will assist in identifying key questions, recruiting lead investigators, organizing, planning and potentially providing start-up funding for these projects. The goal is to take advantage of the substantial expertise and experience available in the organization to advance our understanding, and to increase the quality of clinical research being performed by the organization.

Potential issues that have been suggested for study include:

  • DVT prophylaxis in the trauma patient
  • Prospective study of severe pilon fractures
  • Treatment of pediatric femur fractures
  • Timing of orthopaedic surgery in the head injured patient
  • Antibiotic treatment duration in open fracture
  • Special morbidity and mortality issues in the elderly trauma patient

Additional information may be obtained from the Research Committee, Joseph Borrelli, MD Chairman.
