The OTA electronic discussion list was established by the Orthopaedic Trauma Association for the following purposes:

1) Distribution of OTA announcements, educational offerings, meeting schedules and deadlines and our electronic newsletter.
2) Dissemination of social, political and scientific information of interest to members and medical professionals involved in the care of orthopaedic trauma patients.
3) Discussion of orthopaedic trauma topics, issues, controversies and cases.

Although the list is open to any subscriber, it is intended for orthopaedic trauma surgeons or other medical professionals. It is not an appropriate place for patients to seek information regarding their own orthopaedic conditions. Individual cases presented are accompanied by only limited and selected information and opinions expressed should not be generalized to any other patient or case. The OTA requires all participants who present cases to remove all identifying information from historical data and images, and to comply with HIPAA restrictions regarding discolsure of protected medical information. Presentation of any case in any form represents acceptance by the individual presenter of all responsibility for compliance with these restrictions. Any opinions regarding diagnosis or treatment expressed to the list are solely those of the individual participant, and are not endorsed by the OTA. No participant on the list is authorized to speak for OTA in any manner.

Case Discussion Forum

Case-based education. Fracture Conference in Cyberspace. Submit your own cases for consultation or teaching. Learn from cases submitted by colleagues. Share your clinical experience with others.

  • To review the cases already archived and under discussion, click the Case Discussion Forum link above.

  • To submit an opinion, join the OTA Trauma List (as described below). Place your opinion in the body of e-mail to the OTA Trauma List. While you may believe that your opinion is self-evident, specific references and data to back up your assertions are always appreciated and add to the value of the Case Discussion archive.

  • To submit cases for discussion, join the OTA Trauma List (as described above). Place a case description in the body of e-mail to the OTA Trauma List. The case description will be transferred to a web page.

  • To add digital images to the presentation, either attach the digital images to the case description e-mail or click here to directly upload images to the Case Discussion server. This is particularly considerate and helpful if there are large image file sizes (>50-100 K) to transmit. It prevents significant slowing and clogging of colleagues' e-mail which may be channeled through slower phone modem lines. After uploading the images to the Case Discussion server, please notify Bill Burman of your contribution so that he may appropriately attach them to the web page of your case. All participants, presenters and discussers, are encouraged to submit images (examples and counter-examples) to amplify their remarks.
